Maria Semmer was born in 1979 in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany.
She studied graphic design and photography at the Georg Simon Ohm University of Nuremberg, with study stays in Berlin and Saint Petersburg. After completing her studies, she lived for several years in Rome, where she deepened her artistic work in the field of fine art photography.
Maria Semmer focuses on dreams, liminal worlds, and the relationship with nature.
These themes are expressed in her works, which have been exhibited in galleries and museums and published in catalogs, art magazines, and photography books.
She currently lives and works in Rothenburg ob der Tauber.
“I look for places that inspire me and invite me to dream. I love lonely places like forests, old abandoned houses, meadows, and lakes. Here, I immerse myself in creating a personal world, where the boundaries between reality and the supernatural or dreamlike dissolve. I often capture images and scenes from my dreams and transform them into parts of my work, telling open-ended stories without a precise conclusion.”
