The Andrea Ingenito Contemporary Art Gallery is pleased to announce the solo exhibition by Alessandro Russo “Milano verticale” that will be held from 30th March to 13th May (on Via Lodovico Settala 59 Milan), curated by Andrea Ingenito and Piero Mascitti.
The exhibition is a focus on a cycle of works created by the artist and carefully selected by the curators. A tale of Milan, the “vertical” city par excellence, which since the post-industrial period has been one of the most “lively” economic capitals in Europe. A city that after 2000 has had a radical change in its skyline with a succession of skyscrapers designed by famous archistars. The most beautiful of them is the “Bosco Verticale” designed by architect Stefano Boeri (awarded as the most beautiful in the world) and painted on canvas by Russo.
A city that grow and transform itself. A transformation telling by the artist through his paintings with a contemporary connotation without leaving behind << Canaletto’s urban landscape, Géricault’s romanticism, the impressionism of everyday life or Sironi’s muralism >> [Marco Meneguzzo]. But it is not easy to paint a contemporary city without falling into the shallow and Russo succeeds in conveying the legacy of his landscape painting predecessors with a process of vibrant colours and tones that define urban views, skyscrapers and architecture drawn by accurate brushstrokes surrounded by realistic elements and silhouetted against an almost unpainted sky.
That futuristic tradition of Umberto Boccioni (who was also born in Calabria and lived in Milan for many years) and his “Città che sale” which already in the early 20th century bore witness to the strong and dynamic urban growth of the Lombard capital, a tradition picked up and carried on in Russo’s works.
