OPENING January, 25th H.18:00
Via Cappella Vecchia 8/a Naples
The Andrea Ingenito Contemporary Art Gallery is delighted to announce the solo exhibition of the well-known American artist David Bowes “L’Enfant prodige”. The exhibition will be held from January 25th to March 9th 2024 at the Naples location (opening Thursday, January 25th h. 18:00).
The artist will be present at the opening.
The exhibition, curated by Graziano Menolascina, will provide the public with a fascinating immersion in Bowes’ art, who returns to Naples after several years and marks the beginning of the collaboration between the artist and the gallery.
David Bowes’ art is characterised by an astonishing fusion of shapes and colours, creating compositions of journeys into idyllic and sometimes surreal worlds marked by rich colour composition. These works transcend mere visual representation, transporting viewers on an intimate and introspective journey through the beauty and complexity of life.
“In the work of David Bowes, the myth of childhood remains vibrant. A common denominator widespread among modern and contemporary artists is the rejection of imitating external reality in favor of exploring inner life, composed of feelings and emotions. Bowes incorporates into his work perceptions and mysteries of the contemporary world, graspable only by a naive mind, free from prejudices and defensive constraints, reaching that original vision that becomes his lost paradise.” – by curator Graziano Menolascina.
On the 50th edition of Arte Fiera Bologna (from the 1st to 4th of February 2024) the appointment with the artist David Bowes is renewed with a stand completely dedicated to a series of his historical works dating back to the Lucio Amelio collection.
Biography
David Bowes (Boston 1957) has embarked on an extraordinary artistic journey, shaping a distinctive visual language. In 1986, he became a permanent part of the Terrae Motus collection, initiated by Lucio Amelio after the Irpinia earthquake in 1980, now housed at Reggia of Caserta. His presence at the Venice Biennale in 1999 was significant. Influenced from a young age by Italian figurative painting, the artist took independent and entirely autonomous steps, diverging from the trends and fashions of the time. Despite engaging with the most prominent artists of his era, Bowes has managed to maintain an original and unfettered artistic vocabulary, free from ideological constraints.
Crucial for his artistic career was the encounter and friendship with several internationally renowned artists and gallery owners. Among the former are Americans Jean Michel Basquiat, George Condo, Keith Haring, and Italians Luigi Ontani, Nicola De Maria, Mario Schifano and Emilio Prini.
Among the list of galleries and institutions where he has held solo and group exhibitions are: Annina Nosei Gallery, Tony Shafrazi Gallery, Sperone Gallery, Claudia Gian Ferrari Contemporary Art, In Arco Gallery, Studio Raffaelli, Mimmo Scognamiglio Gallery, Al Blu di Prussia and PRAC (Contemporary Art Center).
