Works of Fathi Hassan
Curator Andrea Ingenito
AICA | Andrea Ingenito Contemporary Art is thrilled to present the exhibition by Tathi Hassan titled Un Nubiano caduto dal Cielo, curated by Andrea Ingenito.
The exhibition is introduced by an artist performance that will take place from 19.00 at Piazza dei Martiri, Neaples.
This performance enjoys the patronage of the City of Naples and is set up by People and Project. The performance consists in a live-written Arabic script, in continuity with those made for the National Museum of African Art Smithsonian Institution (Washington, DC ).
The show, organized with the support of 3L Piscine, continues in the AICA Gallery, where Hassan presents the latest works, in which the symbols of his land are combine with a dense and powerful calligraphy.
In Nubian culture knowledge is handed down orally, memory and the words – not written – are fundamental elements of history. However, for Hassan, son of African Diaspora, the written word can only represent an indispensable point of reference, not preponderant – as in Western culture – over the pronounced but responsive, as the symbolic images of Africa, to an identical need of figuration.
In the works on display, most are mixed technique on paper and wood, nothing is casual, everything is constructed and carefully balanced to create images that give to the spectator the breakthrough of an ancient culture that claims its role in contemporaneity.
