METAMORPHOSIS
Daniela Pergreffi
AICA | Andrea Ingenito Contemporary Art is pleased to present Metamorphosis, the exhibition of Daniela Pergreffi curated by Andrea Ingenito at the Diocesan Museum of Gaeta.
The exhibition, organized by AICA | Andrea Ingenito Contemporary Art in collaboration with the Association Amici di Gaeta Città d’Arte and sponsored by Latina Province and the City of Gaeta, is the first Daniela Pergreffi solo exhibition in an institutional museum.
Along the museum rooms you can admire approximately thirty works, including ten of these made site specific, is a large corpus of watercolors and sculptures. The common theme is represented by the suggestions of the place and mythological references that it proposes: Enea with his nurse Cajeta (from which the same Gaeta takes its name), the sorceress Circe enchantress of humans and animals, to the ancient rituals associated with Eastern religions such as Serapis.
In particular Circe and her enchanted world and disturbing are the primary source of inspiration: the “mutations” and “contamination” between animal and human of which the sorceress is the architect becomes the mirror, the example of the contemporary condition, characterized by physical changes due to surgery aesthetic, piercings, tattoos, and evolution, degeneration and degradation of the human soul.
Through an innate elegance and dreamlike, the works maintain the balance of elements hybridization between human nature and animal, sometimes without the latter is closely connoted, to describe a mythological and ancient world, yet unmistakably present.
